Leaders - Resourcing
The question of who teaches primary languages has a variety of answers. The Key Stage 2 Framework for Languages is designed to support primary class teachers in taking control of the programme of learning for their classes. There are different solutions to providing high quality learning for children. Here teachers and head teachers discuss a number of models of provision to suit different circumstances.
Leadership and management
Leadership requires a vision with medium and long term strategies to implement that vision. Management implies the ability to harness expertise, make best use of resources and training, and above all, to support the professional development of staff in order to ensure the successful application of the school’s policy. The head teacher of a large primary school talks about the challenges and successes of introducing primary languages into the curriculum. In particular, she talks about support from the local authority (LA) and the need for commitment from staff and high quality training from outside. If training is good, staff will take up the challenge.
