Leaders - Making the case
The cornerstone of the National Languages Strategy for England, Languages for all: Languages for Life is the introduction by 2010 of an entitlement to language learning for every child in Key Stage 2.
In this sequence, head teachers, parents and governors make the case for language learning and give a realistic and persuasive view of why languages matter.
Making the case
Great progress has been made towards the objective of providing all children in Key Stage 2 with the opportunity to be learning a language by 2010. The message from schools that are already committed to the teaching of a foreign language is that the language becomes an important part of the creative curriculum envisaged in Excellence and Enjoyment, and that language learning helps children develop their general literacy and confidence as learners.
