Making the case

The cornerstone of the National Languages Strategy for England, Languages for all: Languages for Life is the introduction by 2010 of an entitlement to language learning for every child in Key Stage 2.

In this sequence, head teachers, parents and governors make the case for language learning and give a realistic and persuasive view of why languages matter.

How to use this material

  • You can download video clips and use the material as a stimulus for discussion and group work.

You can print off ‘think pieces’ for use in whole school training sessions or for staff development with small groups.

You can use ‘talking heads’ videos to familiarise parents or governors with the benefits of primary languages at parents’ evenings and open days.
