Leaders - Introducing the Framework

The Key Stage 2 Framework for Languages is a national frame of reference for all those involved in planning and sustaining the language learning entitlement.  It provides a common language for us to discuss primary languages and develop effective teaching and learning, so that we can build a successful, stimulating and relevant programme of language learning for all our children.

Introducing the Framework

The National Languages Strategy for England sets out the Government’s commitment to increasing the nation’s capabilities in languages.  Introducing language learning into every primary school is a major undertaking.

By 2010 every child from the age of seven will have the opportunity to learn a new language in school time.  The successful implementation of primary entitlement supported by the Key Stage 2 Framework for Languages will establish a firm foundation on which to build a secure future for language learning for all.
