Learning a language is of value to
all children in the primary school, regardless of
their background or ability. One of the joys of primary language
learning is the power it has to engage and motivate children. The
breadth and variety offered by the five strands of the Key Stage 2
Framework for Languages and the ways in which those strands are
delivered bring learning alive.
The teaching of primary languages can address all
the key aspects of learning as identified in the Excellence and
Enjoyment documentation. It also contributes to the
development of Community Cohesion and the outcomes of
Every Child Matters and
the Children’s Plan.
