Two form entry: one class - class teacher, qualified with Brazilian Portuguese specialism, one class -  Bilingual Teaching Assistant and class teacher support; Local Authority training and monitoring; head teacher and assistant head teacher in-school training.

Learner profile

24% fluent Portuguese speakers; backgrounds mostly mainland Portugal, a number from Angola and Brazil.

Lambeth LA Scheme of Work for KS2 Portuguese, modelled on the QCA schemes of work for French, German and Spanish and aligned to the KS2 Framework; Asset Languages accreditation (Portuguese); aim to give access to National Curriculum Level 4 by end Year 6 (French).

Post-KS2 opportunities

Data sharing with secondary schools; Asset Languages accreditation promoted in primary to provide indication of Portuguese competence to secondary teachers; some local secondary schools offering Portuguese GCSE; primary and secondary networking through LA.
