We began the day with a warm welcome from Kathryn Board, CILT's Chief Executive, and Therese Comfort, Head of Primary."Lift Off" Pack for subject coordinators

Therese presented CILT's new "Lift Off" pack for subject coordinators which was sent to all primary schools in October 2009. A PowerPoint which you can use to showcase it to colleagues -containing screenshots of the pack and the CD contents - is now available (Download PPT, 4.3MB).

 

Duncan Wilson, an AST from Birmingham LA, spoke about the general principles behind formative assessment in the general context of the primary school.

Jane Jones from King’s College London gave the keynote address, exploring issues of assessment in primary languages, looking particularly at the contribution of AfL. (Download PPT, 190KB)

Therese Comfort and Kati Szeless from CILT presented the latest documents from Asset Languages who, in conjunction with CILT, are in the process of writing support materials to help teachers identify, plan for and record progression in languages at KS2 with reference to the Languages Ladder. Joe Brown, CILT and Hugh Baldry, TDA ran a session seeking to identify issues for consideration as the group collectively arrives at an understanding of what a good primary languages would look like. You can download both their presentation (Download PPT, 1MB) and their presentation notes (Download PDF, 300KB).

Pam Haezewindt, Ofsted presented recent findings from Ofsted inspection visits in primary schools around the country. (Download PPT, 962KB)

Carmel O'Hagan from CILT presented the latest on the Language Upskilling specification, being launched in October 09, to support language training for primary teachers' own linguistic development.
