Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP)

Target candidate: Degree recognised in UK; Skills and qualities for immediate teaching responsibilities
Duration: up to 1 year
Salary: Yes

The GTP is for graduates who have the relevant experience to cope with significant teaching load and professional duties at the same time as their training. Training lasts between one term and a year depending on previous experience and there is tough competition for places.

Providers can sometimes help candidates to find a school. Trainees receive a monthly salary, usually based on the unqualified teachers’ scale (from £15, 113 FTE, 2008-09 figures).

Please note: The GTP run by CILT is for native speakers of French, Spanish, German and Italian wishing to teach in secondary education. If you are interested in this course, find out more at CILT GTP.
