EYFS statutory framework

This document sets out the statutory requirements for all EYFS providers, required to be in use from September 2008 onwards. It contains the standards for learning, development and care of children aged 0-5 years.

The framework unites previous guidelines outlined in the ‘Curriculum guidance for foundation stage’ (2000), ‘Birth to 3 matters’ (2002) and the ‘National standards for under 8s in daycare and childminding’. Communication, language and literacy features as one of the six areas of the Learning and Development strand.
