French on display (Belair/Folens)
offers exciting ideas for classroom displays and activities to
stimulate children's work in French.
The book is arranged into 33 different themes
such as the family, birthdays and celebrations, but there are clear
links to other areas of the curriculum including history,
geography, maths, RE, art, PE and ICT.
Each theme includes starting points on how to
introduce the topic through whole-class games and activities,
conversation models for speaking and listening practise, vocabulary
lists and infomation on how to make the display.
The activities are aimed at children
between 7-11 years old but could be adapted for Key Stage 1.
More information is available on the
Folens website.
Following the success of its
French counterpart,
Devon Education Services have published
Take 10 en español, a multi-media pack that helps primary
teachers to integrate Spanish into daily PE activities.
The book includes 29 ideas for physical games,
grouped by age range and activity type (e.g. running and chasing,
coordination, etc).
There are also 21 activity rhymes and songs,
with suggested movements, lyrics and a brief cultural
background.
The book references the Key Stage 2 Framework for Languages and includes
notes on Spanish culture and suggested vocabulary for extending the
language.
The pack also comes with:
- An action rhymes DVD, which can be
used to model the actions described in the book
- An audio CD, which can provide the original
soundtrack for performances
- A Hispanic dance DVD, featuring Flamenco
dancing in Seville with Flamenco and Salsa workshop clips
- A pronunciation audio CD, which provides
support for using the extended language that accompanies each
physical activity in the book.
The resource is available directly from
Devon Education Services.
